WINNIPEG, MB – Lieutenant Ryan Carnahan (right) from Fall River, NS, receives his Air Combat System Officer (ACSO) Wings from Colonel Denis O’Reilly at 17 Wing Winnipeg upon graduation from his Air Combat System Officer course.

Ryan graduated from Lockview Highschool in 2010 before enrolling in the Canadian Armed Forces the next year. He is the son of Nathaly Carnahan and Ron Carnahan who is also an ACSO currently employed in the Royal Canadian Air Force. This September, Ryan completed the ACSO course, a year-long intensive career course conducted at 402 Squadron in Winnipeg, MB. This is the same course that his dad completed in 1985.

Ryan’s exceptional performance throughout the course led him to finish first of his class of 8 candidates. He was also awarded the James R. Dow Trophy for his outstanding results during flight training. With his new qualification, Ryan will be following in his father’s footsteps. While his dad flew in the maritime helicopter CH-124 Sea King, Ryan will be posted to 442 Squadron in Comox, BC where he will fly on the CC-115 Buffalo conducting Search and Rescue missions.

Air Combat Systems Officers, like Ryan, are tasked to direct missions onboard a variety of Canadian Armed Forces aircraft and manage crew operations. They operate precise tactical navigation systems, sophisticated sensors, communication systems, electronic warfare equipment and weapon delivery systems. They lead a variety of missions, including: Search and Rescue, Anti-Submarine Warfare, Maritime Surveillance, Counter-Narcotics Operations, Electronic Warfare and Humanitarian Relief.

Fall River Lions Christmas Parade

The Fall River Lions Christmas Parade will take place on Nov. 29, beginning at the LWF Hall and travelling down the Fall River Road to the Sobeys. It starts at 1 p.m. The storm date is Dec. 6, also at 1 p.m. The parade will kick off the 2015 edition of the Lions Christmas Express food drive. Groups and organizations in the parade will be collecting food and monetary donations for the food drive.
