Fall River Canal Days Programme

All events unless otherwise stated are held at the Snow Centre No Parking at Snow Community Centre. Please use church and school parking lots.

29 June to 2 July

1:00 p.m. to 4 p.m. daily – Art Show in the GRSCC multi-purpose room. This is an all media show, so in addition to traditional paintings, photographs, sculptures, lithographs, carvings etc. are encouraged. For details and registration, contact Lawrence Spencer, 861-4970 or lspencer@jacknife.org

Sunday 1 July, We Celebrate Canada Day

9:00 to 12:00 – Fenian Lookoff Trail walk. Join members of the Open Space and Trails group for a walk to an historic lookoff trail with panoramic views of Fletchers Lake and Fall River.

Meet at the intersection of Sandstone Ave and Limestone Avenue. It is recommended that you wear good walking shoes and bring bug spray and water.

10:00 to 2:00 p.m. – Strawberry social at the Vegetorium 2900 Highway #2. Contact Maria 860-2131

12:00 – Flag raising ceremony at Snow Center to celebrate Canada Day and dedicate the new flag pole. The flag has been provided by Peter Stoffer. If you participate in the singing of Oh Canada, you can have a piece of the cake which is going to be served.

Monday 2 July, We Celebrate QE II’s Diamond Jubilee

8:00 a.m. to 10:00 a.m. – Ecumenical breakfast ($2.00) Start the day’s activities off with a hearty breakfast in the company of friends and neighbours at St. Johns United Church, 3360 Highway #2. This breakfast is hosted by St. John’s United Church, St. Thomas Anglican Church, St. Rose of Lima Catholic Church and Subway.

10:00 a.m. to 11:30 a.m. – Shubenacadie Canal Commission paddle to Lock 4. Take a paddle down the historic Shubenacadie Canal from the northern end of Lake Thomas to Lock 4 and return. Lots of history along this bit of the waterway. Meeting point: Lakeside lot at 3214 Highway #2 in time for a 10:00 pushoff. For more information contact: Allan Billard, 449-0581

10:00 a.m. to 2:00 p.m. – Fishing derby, Lake Thomas. Registration: Bill Horne 861-3912 or at the Snow Centre waterfront on the day. Various prizes to be won including hand tied flies by A. MacLeod.

11:30 a.m. to 12:15 p.m. – Parade from old Rec. Centre to Snow Centre. All welcome to participate, free. Assembly by 11:15 a.m. at Old Rec. Centre, 3182 Highway #2. The route will be from the old Rec Centre, along Highway #2 and Fall River Road, to the Snow Community Centre.

11:30 a.m. to 6:00 p.m. (approx.) Concessions (Lions BBQ, Sno Cones, Rogers Wireless and more).

12:30 p.m. to 2:30 p.m. – Fun Dog Show. Other pets are welcome but need to love and be loved (not as a snack) by dogs. Registration at 12:30. Show begins with pet parade and costume awards at 1:00 p.m. – FREE. Contact Lynne Cooper 406-6420 for info.

12:30 p.m. to 4:30 p.m. – Bouncy Castle. This year it a combined bouncy castle and slide.

2:00 p.m. to 6:00 p.m. or so – Music in the gazebo. Park the kids in the bouncy castle, get a beverage from the Lions , bring a chair and settle back for some really fine music by a provided by a variety of performers including Sonrise, and the Epilectric Band.

Afternoon – Various events. Fire truck, fire boat on display, face painting, Radio station van, etc.
